Do You Have the Luck of the Irish? Find Out When You Attend This Holiday-Oriented Parade

Get ready to experience the luck of the Irish! The popular Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade, an Atlanta favorite for the past 137 years, returns to the streets of Midtown this Saturday, March 16th. This year’s parade steps off at noon at the intersection of Peachtree and 15th Street and continues down Peachtree to 5th Street. More than 2,000 dancers, musicians, llamas and Irish and local dignitaries are expected to march this year. Don’t miss it!

Atlanta’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, which was started by the city’s Hibernian Benevolent Society – a Catholic and Protestant fraternal organization – dates to 1858, making it one of the country’s oldest. Produced by Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade, Inc., the Parade features representatives from the various Irish groups integral to Atlanta’s Irish community. Members of the Hibernian Benevolent Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Clan Na NGael, Fire Emerald Society of Metro Atlanta (FESMA), the Irish Information Center and the Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society (MAPES) are all active members and participants.

This year, the parade will feature The Big Idaho Potato Truck, which is the world’s largest potato on wheels. The Big Idaho Potato Truck began in 2012 as a one-year campaign to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of the Idaho Potato Commission and it quickly became apparent that it would be more than a one-year occurrence. It travels the country promoting the certified heart-healthy Idaho Potato and its mission to help small charities in towns and cities with its A Big Helping program. Not to mention that people just want to have their picture taken with a four-ton Idaho potato!

The historic, family-friendly Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade is not to be missed! Be there when the parade begins rolling at noon. This year’s parade is presented by Irish Network Atlanta, a local chapter of Irish Network USA, created to integrate the Southeast with community of Irish, Irish Americans and friends of Ireland.
